Fundraiser to Bolster Monero's Security Through Automated Testing

<a target="_blank" href="Help fund the next round of security fuzzing for Monero (MAGIC Monero Fund)The MAGIC Monero Fund is in the midst of a big fundraising push to ensure we get our second fuzzing project across the line. We're nearly halfway to our target amount after we have made a $10,000 donation to the fundraiser out of our general fund. Monero is fast approaching perhaps its most important upgrade to date, Full-Chain Membership Proofs (FCMP), and continued collaboration with some of the best firms in the security ecosystem to ensure Monero remains resilient in the face potential crash and exploitation vectors is paramount. But we can't do it without you.Quick refresher on what fuzzing is: Fuzzing is automated testing that throws immense volumes of random, malformed inputs at software to shake out bugs, crashes, and security vulnerabilities that humans often miss. Monero gets to run these security tests continuously for free through integration with OSS-Fuzz.Why this matters: the first fuzzing project (finished last year) had ADA Logics build harnesses around Monero's RPC handlers. The result was RPC coverage went to 100%, and three real vulnerabilities were found and fixed in the code. Those harnesses keep running and catching new edge cases to this day.The problem is that other sizable parts of the codebase have very little coverage:- wallet — 5.23%- common — 15.87%- p2p — 2.04%- fcmp++ — 0%This round targets exactly those gaps (src/wallet, src/p2p, src/fcmp_pp). Importantly we would like to have this project complete and in action before FCMP goes live on the network.Who's doing the work: ADA Logics again, picked because of the high quality deliverables in our previous engagement. They're a specialized security firm in this field of work and their CEO David Korczynski is a top OSS-Fuzz contributor with a PhD from Oxford. ADA Logics has fuzzed projects like Docker, Ethereum, and Kubernetes (they previously discovered a critical Ethereum vuln, CVE-2020-28362). This project will span 3 months and the deliverables include open source fuzzing harnesses along with a publicly available, detailed, written report.Fundraising Goal: Our goal is $50K, and we're about 43% funded so far (~$22k across 90 donations). You can donate in XMR, BTC, LTC, and more. Contribute now help secure Monero: https://donate.magicgrants.org/monero/projects/fuzzing-monero-2" title="Fundraiser to Bolster Monero's Security Through Automated Testing">full image</a> <strong> - Repost: Fundraiser to Bolster Monero's Security Through Automated Testing</strong> (<i>from Reddit.com, Fundraiser to Bolster Monero's Security Through Automated Testing</i>) <br><blockquote> Help fund the next round of security fuzzing for Monero (MAGIC Monero Fund)The MAGIC Monero Fund is in the midst of a big fundraising push to ensure we get our second fuzzing project across the line. PSA for anyone using multisig escrow: verify the shared address out-of-band before you fund

<a target="_blank" href="Something that doesn't get said enough about 2-of-3 multisig escrow, whether you use a service or roll your own.In a multisig escrow, buyer, seller, and a third party (arbiter/operator) each generate a key, and the setup messages get relayed between you, often through the escrow's server. Here's the subtle risk: if that relay is malicious, it could hand you a different shared address than your counterparty actually helped create. one where the operator controls 2 of the 3 keys. You fund it, thinking it's a real 2-of-3 with your key in it, and it isn't.The fix is dead simple and costs nothing: after setup, both parties independently read off the shared deposit address and confirm they match, through your own channel. Same address on both sides = the setup is honest. Different = stop, don't fund. It's the multisig equivalent of comparing PGP fingerprints out of band. Cheap, and it turns "trust the operator not to tamper" into something you can actually check.Full disclosure: I run a Monero escrow service and we just built this address-comparison prompt into our multisig flow after a security pass.happy to go into the mechanics if useful. But the advice applies to any multisig escrow, not just ours." title="PSA for anyone using multisig escrow: verify the shared address out-of-band before you fund">full image</a> <strong> - Repost: PSA for anyone using multisig escrow: verify the shared address out-of-band before you fund</strong> (<i>from Reddit.com, PSA for anyone using multisig escrow: verify the shared address out-of-band before you fund</i>) <br><blockquote> Something that doesn't get said enough about 2-of-3 multisig escrow, whether you use a service or roll your own.In a multisig escrow, buyer, seller, and a third party (arbiter/operator) each generate a key, and the setup messages get relayed between you, often through the escrow's server.
