Welcome! Here is a compilation of the most commonly asked questions on the subreddit and some resources to help you get started. If you have any suggestions to improve/add something to this post, feel free to message us.ResourcesThe Ravencoin whitepaper.Want to get started mining RVN? Check out this guide.Ravencoin wiki.Original Ravencoin announcement on BitcointalkRavencoin Foundation blog.Ravencoin asset explorer.Join the Discord!Developer meetings are held every other Friday at 4 pm Eastern in #development-meetings on DiscordFAQsQ: "What is Ravencoin/what makes it different?"A: "Ravencoin is a code fork of bitcoin, fair launch, proof of work mined chain with an asset aware protocol that allows users to easily create and manage unique digital assets. That's it."To learn more. Read the whitepaper. Also see this post. Or this. Or this. Or this. Also maybe this.(All have good comments/discussion).Q: "So Ravencoin is just a fork of Bitcoin, then?"A: Bitcoin is an incredibly strong and proven code-base that served the purpose of Ravencoin's goals perfectly. There is no need to reinvent the wheel and spin-your-own blockchain unless you have good reason to.Q: "Ravencoin can't do X, but X-coin can do it. Therefore, X-coin is better, right?"A: Ravencoin has assets built-it with no smart contracts required. Facilitating the creation and transfer (including trustless on-chain atomic swaps) of assets without the complexity and attack surface of smart contracts is the unique selling point of Ravencoin. It also means that it cannot do lots of things that other chains can (without layer 2 solutions). And that's fine. There's no need for every single coin to be a monolith. Ravencoin is hyper-focused on one thing and doing that well.Q: "But what if X-coin can do assets and even more?"A: More than likely, unlike Ravencoin, they do this with smart contracts; which have their own issues and problems. More features come at a cost of project focus, security (potentially. a bigger attack surface.) and an increase in overall complexity.Q: "What are people doing to promote RVN?"A: Check out the Ravencoin foundation (their blog can be found here).Q: "I want to develop something with Ravencoin; how do I do this?"A: You can start by learning how to interact with the wallet via code. As Ravencoin is based on Bitcoin, you can look at bitcoin-based tutorials for this. I would recommend this playlist (it is very beginner-friendly and walks you through every step).Furthermore, this is an excellent tutorial on getting starting with Ravencoin in C#: https://ift.tt/S2eV0Eu, check out the "Raven Rebels" channel.Q: "We need more marketing!"A: Ravencoin is a community-run effort where anyone can get involved and help out, marketing included! If you want to help out, here are maybe some ideas for what could help generate interest and/or make the community a more vibrant place:Help update the Ravencoin foundation's blog by compiling all the latest news about the project (maybe in a style like this)Ravencoin "webzine" combining Ravencoin related news, art and discussion .Ravencoin radio where people can listen to some tunes (like this).Ravencoin Community Crowdfunding Service (like this)Related to the above suggestion - donation drives to help out charities in need (bird sanctuaries, maybe :p)Q: "Ravencoin sounds awesome in theory, but who is using it?A: Have a look on the front page of the wiki.Q: "Who is the owner of the wallet that contains 42% of all RVN?"A: Check out this tweet by Tron Black.Q: "When will Coinbase list Ravencoin?"A: All major work has been done to be eligible for Coinbase to list Ravencoin, and the application has been resubmitted to them. Hopefully, we hear good news soon.Q: "500 RVN for creating an asset seems quite high. Will this be changed? Can't it be linked to fiat?"A: For an answer to this, I would highly suggest reading Tron Black's post regarding this. He goes into detail about each suggestion proposed and lists the pros and cons of each.Q: "Can I stake Ravencoin?"A: Kind of! Check out this.Wallet QuestionsQ: "I just received something called a SCAMCOIN/RAVENCOINCASH/RVNASSETSFORSALE.COM (etc.) in my wallet. What is it?"A: Someone sent you an unsolicited asset. Effectively, spam. Much like someone sending you a spam e-mail. If you do not want them, you can send them to the burn address: RXBurnXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXWUo9FVAlternatively, see the next question.Q: "Is there a way of filtering out/blocking spam assets?"A: Yes! You can use the electrum wallet supports filtering specific assets :).Mining questionsQ: "Why does Kawpow run so hot?"A: Kawpow is "ASIC resistant" which -- in the case of Kawpow's approach -- comes at the cost of increased power usage.Q: "But my favourite coin says it's ASIC resistant and it doesn't run so hot..."A: ASIC resistance is a permanent game of cat and mouse. Chains that are currently ASIC resistant might not be if there's suddenly an invested interest in building ASICs. However, unlike other algorithms, Kawpow requires the use of various regular GPU components thus making it not cost-effective for someone to manufacture an ASIC to mine it. Other techniques reliant on memory hardening are less resistant and normally require intervention (hard forking the project) to stop any ASICs.Q: "Is mining Ravencoin profitable for my card?"A: More than likely, yes. Ravencoin can be mined with most cards with a minimum of 6gb of VRAM. Go to What To Mine and select your card there to see expected earnings. (Please note, your card might not be on that website, but that doesn't mean it isn't profitable or supported. Instead, look at a similar powered card to get a rough idea of the profitability.)
