Monero GUI wallet

I downloaded the Monero GUI wallet onto my laptop, created a wallet and deposited some XMR from my Cake Wallet into it. I then shut down the laptop. The next time I logged on to the laptop, I opened up the Monero GUI wallet but it was unable to connect - some file couldn't be found.If I delete the version I downloaded, and redownload the wallet, can I still log on to the account I previously created? I don't want to lose the XMR I transferred into it.
